Shola Part Of Blueprint

Shola Part Of Blueprint

Ameobi is obviously aware that Glenn Roeder is looking to bring two forwards to St James' Park before the end of the month, but he also knows he is a major part of the Roeder blueprint.

Ameobi: 'Newcastle need to have strikers if we're to challenge. Newcastle's a big club, and we need to have top players competing for every position.

'Every year there's talk of a new striker coming in - that's the norm. I know that's going to happen, and I know we need to bring strikers in. We need strength in depth, and we need the quality that I know Glenn's looking for if we're going to win a trophy this season.

'I think these two pre-season games have helped us. If we'd been playing the likes of Hartlepool and Darlington and scoring goals left, right and centre that wouldn't have given us a mark of where we're at.

'These games have been fantastic for us. They've shown us that we need to improve dramatically in the next two weeks if we're going to have an impact in the Premiership this season.'

Ameobi has been playing well since Roeder took charge. About time, and I for one hope it continues.
