'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Insult Or Foolishness?

I never thought I'd see the day Wigan Athletic played Newcastle United in a cup competition, and felt they could 'rest' their entire team without any fear of a backlash. But Wigan boss Paul Jewell insists the pressure is entirely on Newcastle and manager Graeme Souness ahead of Wednesday night's Carling Cup clash.

The Magpies cannot believe their good fortune as Jewell is set to rest all 10 of his outfield players who figured in the 2-1 home defeat to Tottenham on Saturday.

Jewell: 'Maybe it's a more important game for Newcastle given the expectations, but we don't want to be just bit-part players,' insisted Jewell. We obviously want to win the game and progress as far as we can, although I feel there might be a bit more pressure on them to get the win.

'It's one of those cups they will be targeting to win because it is entry into Europe for them, so they will probably bring the big hitters out.'
