We sent Agent Bruce into the dark place back in 2009 and as far as we're concerned, his cover was never blown, but the time was right, we had to pull him out.
His career as Agent started well, in June 2009 he started his work and during the season, managed to put in a run of 14 games without a win, which we thought was excellent.
Un-remarkable signings and loan deals aside, we did question Bruce on his decision to sign Darren Bent, we felt this was going against the plan to eradicate the club, however, despite actually selling him for some decent cash, Bruce had pulled off a master stroke, leaving the team without a decent striker and showing the rest of the footballing world that Sunderland is not the place to be.
Perhaps Agent Bruces defining moment was his perfect removal of Niall Quinn, his undercover work here was a shining example to all agents out there and we can only imagine how he managed to oust Disco Pants himself.
We would have liked to keep Bruce undercover until April 2012 at least, we feel his work would have been entirely complete with Sunderland successfully relegated, but the American, Mr Short, well we think he saw our plan!
Thanks Steve!
