New Striker - The Bottom Line

Shola Ameobi and Albert Luque will face Villarreal in Saturday's St James' Park friendly, but Roeder doesn't need us to tell him his options are paper thin.

Roeder: 'Having just two strikers leaves us woefully short. Most Premiership managers have four strikers in their squad to select from but we have to be patient.

'There is still the best part of three weeks until the transfer window closes and it's still possible we could get a couple of players in. We are working hard to identify the players we want.'

So what about Empoli's Francesco Tavano and Feyenoord's Dirk Kuyt?
Newcastle scout David Mills will be at the Amsterdam tournament this weekend checking out Kuyt again, but Roeder ruled out any move for Tevano.

Roeder: 'It's not true, we're not even aware of the player.'

Shepherd: 'Glenn is not going to get anyone that won't suit Newcastle. This is Newcastle. We're never boring, so let's see what happens.'

If newcastle don't buy strikers there is a possibility of a relegation battle looming

what are you on about?? i think you have those blinkers on. duff, parker, given, n'zogbia, solano, luque, woodgate, bowyer, shearer. i could go on further into the past. i really can't see us in a relegation battle, yeah we need strikers, but there is also the transfer window in january to come. believe me, i'm sweating a bit, but i think our midfield is strong and has the ability to start banging them in. we have only been shank over the last two years, finishing up in our lowest positions in the prem ever. i cant see how ppl are writing us off yet when there are teams like villa, pomey, wigan, everton etc etc who will always hold up the table. and you also contradicted yourself carrickisours. are you really that plsd to have carrick? i can't believe ferguson wanted him so bad. any news on alan smith?
