Woodgate 'No Go'

Reports linking Newcastle United with Real Madrid defender Jonathan Woodgate are well wide of the mark.

The player has had major injury problems since he left Tyneside for Spain, and Toon boss Glenn Roeder will not be joining Bolton Wanderers in trying to negotiate a deal.

Toon chairman Freddy Shepherd has said he would welcome the ex-Leeds defender back to St James' Park, but only on a loan deal.

Madrid are only willing to talk about a deal if the money is put on the table.

That would be scraping the barrel to fix up the defence, you guys have enough people laying on tables.

he is one of the best cb's in the world, simple as. i would take him back anyday, yes he is injury prone, but its not just about that, its confidence he supplies to the team and club. i'd want him on a pay per play contract. as i have said before, our defensive record didn't turn out that bad, its just the press wiping things up. why do we get slagged off for our defence when you lot didn't finish much better teddy and get praised? and you lost some silly points? its just boum, he is shank. what are you going to do with no king? top 4 would be amazing, after our last two years i would be more than happy with a top 6. i think it'll be really close between 3-8 places.

JW is one of the countries best centre back's im only interested in getting him on a loan deal though but although i like the idea of a pay per play contract but being realistic can anyone name me a player of that age that would accept a contract like that surely he would be thinking about his future!! at the moment i have to look at other options and look more importantly for someone upfront!

its not likely we would get him on a pay per play. but if its his career he is intersted in he'd be better at our nufc than at a lower prem club. i think we will start banging them in, yes, we need another striker, two to be more solid. but our defence needs tidying up still. i think this will be another season where we let a few in but outscore most teams.
