Smoggies After Milner

Rovers boss Mark Hughes obviously does not want to sell, and the player is making noises suggesting he would like to stay at Ewood Park rather than face the smog and acid rain on Teeside.

So reports from the Riverside claim Southgate is ready to tempt James Milner with the offer of first team football, despite Glenn Roeder insisting the ex-Leeds United winger is not for sale.

The 20-year-old returned to St. James's Park after a loan spell at Aston Villa last season, and Villa tried to sign him last January, but the asking price was £3m ... and the midland club only offered £1m.

Boro certainly have the funds to the player.

Milner was great for us at villa last season although admitedly he wasnt in a very good team. He was one of our best players and has a great workrate and at 20 years of age can only get better. It really would mismangement if Newcastle part with him at this stage of his career. Although typically im sure your priority at the moment is to ensure that bramble and boumsong are tied down to long term contracts!!

i agree, he has it in him to be something better than he is. he is very dedicated and eager with talent. i hope we keep him. lets be fair, you'd take bramble or boumsong. ppl fail to realise we finished with one of the better defences in the league, we just didn't score enough. i think bramble still has the ability to be something great. we just need woodgate back.

I'm very surprised that geordie fans would want woodgate back. I saw him at villa park a couple of seasons ago with Newcastle and he was terrific, but do you really want a player that history tells us is highly injury prone? At Villa we have Mellberg, now I'm sure you can argue that Woodgate is the better of the two, but Mellberg must surely be worth more at he plays about 99% of the games.

i would think milner would want to stay and fight 4 his place at newcastle, he then will have a chance to play for a big club

i'd take him back anyday, i think he is one of the best cb's in the world. yes, he is injury prone, but he makes that much of a difference. its also what he teach's the other defenders in our club. i'd be more confident with him in a black and white shirt. even if he played 20 games a season he'd tighten us up at the back. his injury record is such a shame and a waste of his talent.

why do you want to sell him, he got the third highest assists last season! better than any ncaslte players.

i was talking about woody. i think in general most toon fans don't want milner to leave, he is going to be a great talent, full of enthusiasm, strength, talent and skill. i hope he becomes what he could be, but i think he is down list at the toon, just cos he is young while we have other expensive players above him which they have to play (which is the wrong mentality), for me he'd be on the bench everygame and i'd bring hime on to change the game as he is good at really attacking lb and rb's.
