Leeds Snub Geordie Boy

And he could have shot himself in the foot by turning down that Newcastle contract that would have kept him at St James' Park for another 12 months.

Leeds have said today they will not be offering contracts to Elliott, or other trialist Mark Fotheringham.

Former Newcastle defender Elliott, 32, turned down an offer to remain at St James' Park earlier in the summer and appeared for Kevin Blackwell's side in the friendly defeat to Hartlepool.

Scottish midfielder Fotheringham, a former Celtic trainee, was also given a run out at Victoria Park, where he played for 73 minutes.
