Milner Key To Ashton Deal

But the self-confessed Shearer fan, could see himself wearing the famous number nine ... if Glenn Roeder gets his way.

Ashton has the build of Shearer, and Roeder has already been back to his old club West Ham to try and tempt him to Tyneside.

The player has refused to tell Roeder to look elsewhere. So much so, the London press is full of tales that a deal could be struck. Newcastle will not pay the £10m asking price, but Hammer's boss Alan Pardue could be interested IF Newcastle include James Milner in the deal.

Milner sees the signing of Damien Duff as the biggest hint yet that Roeder is willing to listen to offers. Watch this space.

i think i would prefer Ashton than Milner now that Duff has arrived. Milner won't get a game now he is behind Duff and Solano in the pecking order

Aye, we need strikers more than we need attacking midfielders, at present. He's a god lad but there seems to be little in the way of end-product: he chases the ball all day but never seems to end up with it. We've got Matty Pattison and Alan O'brien to bleed into the squad, anyway.
