'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Mourinho Fears Reds Backlash

The Republic of Ireland winger passed a medical on Tyneside and signed a five-year contract. And although Liverpool and Tottenham were in the race at the death, Mourinho didn't want the player to go to a side he feels could be challenging him for the Premiership, or to his near neighbours.

Duff was a £17million signing from Blackburn in 2003, and although he has been a success with the Blues (with two Premiership medals to prove it) he didn't fancy a 'bit part' at Stamford Bridge next season.

Mourinho, on the other hand, refused the offer by Liverpool, knowing full well this could be a player who could come back and haunt him.

Liverpool's loss - Newcastle's gain.

So what you are saying is that Mouinho was happy for Duff to go to Newcastle because they are not a threat. I agree that Newcastle are not a threat to anyone but themselves but I am sure that it did not enter Mourinho's head, he sold to you lot because you where the idiots that paid £10-£11 million for him. Don't get me wrong he is a good player but £10-£11 million! Mourinho saw you lot coming.

It seems that Newcastle only paid £5 million for him. Suppose he didn't want to play for spurs because they have no champions league experience at all. Never mind one day maybe.

The authors comments are exactly right, Chelsea stopped the transfer to Spurs (& Liverpool) as they KNOW we are going to be a bigger threat this year, and their gay 'trophy' fans couldnt bear the thought of some competition in the leaugue this year. They would rather have all the players and dominate again with all the money but no satisfaction of actually winning it from a level playing field with the other teams around you. Please take me back to the good old days of division 1 when you could pick from lots of teams capable of winning a trophy, and they was a limit on foreigners so your players could relate to a london derby and actually cared! No seriously good luck to chelsea this year... i hope the Russian gets bored when you fail in CL again and then you will go under when the arse is ripped out of your club. BTW - Duff will create lots of chances for newcastle in the 20 games he manges to play in a season, shame they wont have anyone to knock them in as the rest of their squad is *****e...

HAVE U EVER SEEN A SPUR IN MILIAN ERMMMMMMM NO shearer Ermmmm YES I have thanks very much, Spurs "BEAT AC Milan" on the way to WINNING the UEFA CUP, It was the second of our 3 (THREE) European Trophies (they are shiny things with handles on the side). Have you EVER seen the Barcodes "WIN a Trophy" THOUGHT NOT, Spurs have "ONLY WON 13 (THIRTEEN) Trophies" since Newcastle last WON a Domestic Trophy IN 1955 LOL, and you mugs have the front to "Try to have a go at Spurs", EYE MAN WERE HUGE LIKE , Newcastle are also around £100 million pounds in debt, Spurs have a NET DEBT, and Spurs also make a profit each season .

Good signing Newcastle, 5 million is a bargain even if the player DOES have injury problems it's got to be looked at as worthwhile. By the way Newcastles debt is'nt directly connected to the club, in the same way as the Emerates Stadium is'nt with Arsenal. Also "NET DEBT" is still DEBT!! Net or Gross debt is debt!

if you actually check out duffs stats you'll see he actually hasn't missed many games due to injury, even going to blackburn. he said it himself, he didn't want to play for tottenham or liverpool, you can say its the money all you like, he could have walked into any team in the prem. so, we are not much of a threat to tottenham eh? who had had the better premiership years? who has won more games out of our meetings togther? if we are so crap how come we stuffed you 1-3 last season, and had you in our pockets? i can't see how ppl think we are in big trouble, how far did we finish behind you? and we had a shockingly bad start to the season. so if we are crap and finished off the season better than you, how crap does that make you after you had a really good season for tottenham and we had a really bad season. you think you had success last year? you finished where we used to and a few years ago that was seen as crap for newcastle.
