Souey Irons In The Fire?

Graeme Souness admits he is in constant contact with Rangers chairman David Murray amid speculation over Ibrox boss Alex McLeish's future. And with constant links to the Gers hotseat, is it a healthy position for either/both clubs?

But, apparently, Souey has no designs on McLeish's job - so why stick your nose in when the manager is hanging from a noose? Does it do McLeish any good? Does it do Newcastle any good?

McLeish is widely regarded to be on borrowed time at Ibrox, amid reports that he has been told the identity of his successor by Murray.

And although Souness has sympathy for McLeish, he says of the Rangers crisis: 'It doesn't surprise me because that's the nature of the business we're in. The bigger the club the bigger the pressure. At a big club you are only every two games from the roof caving in.

'I speak to him (David Murray) twice a week'.

Do you get the impression the Newcastle manager is hedging his bets?
