Mackem Attack In Newcastle

A report on the Sunderland official website says Sunderland chairman Bob Murray was attacked in a Newcastle restaurant on Friday evening. BBC Radio Newcastle reported that Murray was attacked with a beer glass at about 11pm last night, as he was having dinner with his wife and Mick McCarthy. No further details are currently known on the incident.

Murray has been under fire from a section of Sunderland supporters lately, and the attack was purported to have come from a 'Sunderland supporter'.

A statement from SAFC read: 'Sunderland AFC can confirm that there was an incident at a Newcastle restaurant last night. Mr and Mrs Murray and Mr and Mrs McCarthy were having a meal when the incident occurred at approximately 11pm.

'A beer glass was used in an attack on Mr Murray, who sustained an injury to his face. Mrs Murray also sustained an eye injury caused by flying glass. The police have advised Mr and Mrs Murray, Mr and Mrs McCarthy and the club not to comment further at this time.'
