Roeder Papers Over Cracks

We know the problem - so why have Newcastle gone into this 'massive' fixture (the words of Shepherd) with Lillestrom AT HOME without a recognised striker?

The pressure is now on ... and the prospect of throwing away a £10m gift horse is all down to the way this club is run. Don't look at the players, and you have to feel sorry for the manager because he gave the chairman is 'wanted list' last May, the buck stops at the chairman!

In the meantime, Roeder is hoping his midfielders and defenders can help ease the burden on the men asked to lead the line.

Asked where the goals will come from, Roeder replied: 'I think they can come from all parts of the team. From our set plays, we have two central defenders who really attack the ball, so apart from Shay Given, I would think they can come from all parts of the team.

'Stephen Carr is well known for coming forward and having a crack from 30 yards and a couple of times a year, them hitting the back of the net.

'Set-plays, your central defenders, your midfield players - you cannot be reliant on just one or two players to get you the goals. That won't be good enough. Everyone has to chip in.'

Desperate? You'd better believe it!
