Curry Our Favour - A view from ToonNoMatterWhat

Curry Our Favour - A view from ToonNoMatterWhat

Loyal but frustrated Magpie ToonNoMatterWhat is the renowned quiz master for TalkOfTheTyne. The questions he asks now are more searching..........

It's Bank Holiday and always a good time for a take away but when

t's a joke term and what i really mean is a take over, is this good for the club and us fans in general?

Analyzing in ToTT fashion, we on this board are biased and would take Hitler if he was still around but scouring the other forums or debate rooms, opinion is split over Ashley's tenure here.

The official line is that there is no truth in any takeover talk and Ashley is here for the foreseeable future, with our boss having 5 years left on his contract also but the whispering few are the one's with the real explanation and more than likely to be true in what is spouted...

Too many times have we heard certain stories regarding players or managers, even deals/sponsorships etc happening before they do, which are dismissed before then being confirmed, for us not to listen to rumour but what can you do eh?

Ashley is gaining credit from certain members for seemingly steadying the ship here but after his calamity of mistakes in his first couple of years or so (including a botched attempt of a sale), is it just a case of getting the house in order, ready for our new tenants?

My personal opinion is that im sick of the regime here and im starting to lose the will to go back to St James', how the hell we can sell so many season tickets is beyond me and this opinion won't change.

Too many decisions are baffling, including some team performances, which aren't really their fault because its like expecting a bricklayer to build a wall without cement..

A certain ingredient is missing, which in our case sticks out like a sore thumb. our regime can't see it or refuse to do something about it (in our case it being at least 2 strikers for a start) and are gambling with our future as we may yet go down.. unlikely but still not impossible..

These decisions coupled with the fickleness of some fans to support no matter what is damaging what future we could have as the fans pay the same money regardless of whether they are getting value for it.

Ten year season tickets price freezes may seem a good deal on paper but what do people think they'll get for that? as this ain't no Keegan/John Hall era, where surprise major signings will happen but mediocrity and basement buys/loans will be more than likely instead. not what id be tempted to part with my hard earned for...

So all in all, a takeover will revitalise my love for the club and bring hope back to my life.. if only everyone shared this view then we could oust this failing regime and get those indians in now.. If god was a geordie this will happen .. So please god.. over to you.

Nice piece that TNMW. For me, this will go one of 2 ways - I do not think there will be any centre ground. Ashley will show his hand this summer, one way or another. Fans have had enough words from Pardew this season to choke on. Action is what is required. Mere words from him once the football stops will simply inflame the situation so I suggest he does not try to placate fans with words. Ashley will decide what is going to happen here. I do not want to hear talk of a sale. I have noticed how easily many fans can be placated with mere talk of Ashley's departure. This again may serve to hide inaction. At the end of the day, if we went into next season with our current squad, we would struggle to avoid relegation so talk of a sale or talk of players coming in is completely meaningless in that respect. I would settle for us tying down the key players on new contracts and strengthening in key areas, in order to improve us for next season. I guess the split in fans' feeling you speak of is in whether you believe this will happen or not. Personally, I believe that before Ashley sells, he will raise money in the transfer market to help repay his loans because I cannot see a potential buyer paying the asking price AND his loan money on top. So it will be down to Ashley to take the lights, carpets and curtains and leave any new owner with a shell requiring some investment. This summer's transfer activity will decide whether this is happening for me. Given the glaring deficiency in striking options, one would expect action to correct this PDQ once the season is over. Any of the usual characteristic waffle about how difficult it is etc etc, will make my mind up as to what is going on. We recognise the modus operandi now. Action from the club, not words are what matters now.

Fair comment Taff and hopefully if Ashley stays, he does dip into his pockets as we really do need to strengthen.. if not, its relegation for certain next season..
