Parker Gets Shearer's Job
The ex-Chelsea midfielder, who was signed by Graeme Souness last summer, is just the man Glenn Roeder sees as the first United captain to lift silverware since Bob Moncur in 1969.
Roeder: 'I have been captain of Newcastle United and I know what a great honour it is, and what is needed to fill the role. In Scott Parker and Shay Given I see two players who can do the job.
'Scott will be captain and Shay vice-captain.'

Good choice, the only other player who had a chance was Shay Given. Maybe he could've gotten it as a result of his loyalty but it makes sense to give the armband to someone in the thick of the action. Though on saying that, Given is called into action more than enough so...
