Are Boro Bigger Than Toon?

Are Boro Bigger Than Toon?

Newcastle are said to be closing in on Fulham midfielder Steed Malbranque after Middlesbrough dropped their interest in the Frenchman.

Which obviously has us wondering what the hell is going on?

Does the player seriously rate Boro bigger than Newcastle ... of does Freddy Shepherd not have the money in the coffers we think he has?

Malbranque is experiencing quite a few problems with the Londoners as he seeks a way to jump ship. He was banished from the Fulham first team by boss Chris Coleman and ordered to join the youth team on their tour of Austria.

The problem for Coleman is the midfielder is entering the final year of his contract and does the manager get a transfer fee for him, or try and coax him to stay. And as it stands at the moment, the latter is well and truly out the window!

Middlesbrough boss Gareth Southgate refuses to pay his £40,000 a week wage demands ... BUT ... will Newcastle?

how could you even consider them smoggie bstard could be bigger than us , but at the moment they have bigger pockets than us , freddy gambled big time last season on luque and owen and neither came off so transfer kittty will be small to say the least and if we fail to make it passed lillestrom @ weekend i wouldnt be suprised if glen doesnt get a penny to spend

Malbranque is out of there but it maybe that he doesn't fancy either club and Fulham will want to get every single penny they can after he turned down the new contract. If you fail to get past Lillestrom then on paper you are a lower club just based on Boro in the EUFA last season.

One would say Middlesbrough overachieved last season, seeing as they had the future England manager in charge whilst we had some Scottish incumberant systematically taking apart Sir Bobby Robson's team. We finished the season on a (relative) high whilst 'boro were smashed in the final, so.

Boro are small time, playing at being a big club. Their fan base is questionable compared to 50,000 odd that Newcastle get week in week out. Newcastle's status, tradition and ability to attract top players mean that they are a much bigger club
