'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Roeder: 'Look And Learn'

As Newcastle prepare for Europe, Glenn Roeder said his side will learn a lot from their two big pre-season friendlies against PSV Eindhoven and Villarreal at St James' Park.

United kick off their friendly fixtures with a trip to Norwich on July 26 for Craig Fleming's testimonial, before home clashes with PSV on July 29 (4pm) and then Villarreal on August 5 (5pm).

Roeder: 'We have some very attractive home fixtures coming up against PSV and Villarreal. We also go to Norwich for Craig Fleming's testimonial, which is a very worthwhile cause.

'But we are looking forward to the two home friendlies. Both of them will be very serious tests for us.'

'This is a good opportunity to play quality European sides. No matter what game PSV Eindhoven are involved in they love to get the ball down and pass it around. And Villarreal are also a team who like to pass it quickly which means they will be good tests for us.'

'We now hope that we have the fittest squad available to choose from.'

Yeah, it will be great experience for Newcastle before the Intertoto Cup and both home games so hopefully the fans will pack the house, 1-0 loss to PSV and 2-0 to Villarreal.

it is better to play good teams in pre season rather than sides that aren't as good as yourself. that way you will learn and improve. we will beat psv 2-1 and draw with villareal 1-1
