Blades Want Butt

Glenn Roeder is in the process of reshaping his squad - he is due back from a short holiday next week and will step up his activity thereafter.

And although he has not had the pleasure of having ex-Manchester United midfielder in his team (Butt was on loan at Birmingham last season), he is said to be looking for offers for the ex-England international.

Butt, apparently, is surplus to requirements with newly-promoted Sheffield United having been linked with a move for the 31-year-old.

Butt spent last season on loan at Birmingham after a disappointing first campaign at at St James' following his £2.5million capture in July 2004.

But the Blues' relegation ended their hopes of sealing a permanent deal, and he will return to Tyneside for pre-season training later this month if nothing is sorted out before then with his wages a potential stumbling block.

Not sure why he'd want to go to Sheff utd instead of birmingham. I know its prem, but i'm sure the better football will be at St. Andrews.
