Milner Yes. Barry No?

Aston Villa hot shot Kevin Phillips has said he would like to see Villa take on-loan midfielder James Milner on a permanent deal. The Newcastle winger is currently on a season long loan following a deal that saw Solano move back to St James Park.

Milner was seen by many as Villa's star player in the weekends' 3-1 win over Sunderland. Phillips said: 'James is top quality and seems to be getting better and better. He is still young and learning his trade but he is a great player. We know it will be difficult to keep him if he keeps performing like he did at Sunderland and that's down to the manager but we would love to keep him. We know about his skill but on Saturday he showed his character because he knew he was going to get booed by the Sunderland fans because of his Newcastle links. He didn't let it affect him.'

Meanwhile David O'Leary has stated that he has no intention of selling Gareth Barry despite continual links to Newcastle. Rumours suggest that Souness will make a £3million bid for the midfielder, who can also play as a left back, in the January transfer window. However O'Leary said that Barry was very much part of his plans and called the player 'quality'. This follows links that suggest Bowyer might move the other way - a rumour that Souness recently put pay to.
