Souness Turned Down Lennon

Glenn Roeder was eyeing Spurs winger Aaron Lennon, but knew as soon as the 19-year-old flyer was a surprise inclusion in England's World Cup squad it was a lost cause.

Lennon's agent is Roeder's former Watford colleague Gary Porter, and the word coming out of White Hart Lane was that the Leeds-born player was finding it difficult to settle in London.

Roeder: 'I knew then any chance we had of signing him had gone.'

Graeme Souness had the chance to sign Lennon for 1m, but thought it was too much of a gamble.

Unlucky or bad management? Knowing Soueys track record I know which one it is. Still I think you got a decent manager for a change and he could do some good but I long will he last with fat freddie sitting on top of him?

Tuff on the toon, but lennon is now surely in the "not for sale" category at spurs and after having eclipsed routledge in the spurs team an SWP's in the england team, I dont think any bids below 25 mil will be considered by Jol, should he think of selling. If the geordies need a rightwinger they should go for pennant or routledge, both excellent prospects with the ability and potential (not to mention blistering pace) to excite a huge crowd.
