Is Weiss The Right Choice?

Is Weiss The Right Choice?

According to most media sources, Newcastle are still chasing a deal for Man City's Vladimir Weiss, but, is he really a player that we need right now...

20 Year old Weiss started his career at Inter Bratislava before joining Man City in 2006, joining up with their youth squad and having a decent run, including a goal against Chelsea in 2009 in the Youth Cup Final.

His senior career hasn't exactly gone to plan however, big money City have a lot of talent and Weiss found himself making way, he has made one start for the Blue part of Manchester, against Barcelona, this would be the highlight of his career so far, in front of a packed Nou Camp.

His first senior goal came in the Carling Cup win against Arsenal in December 2009, seemingly enough to show Man City that he was worth keeping as the following week Weiss signed a contract keeping him in Manchester until 2010.

January 2010 saw Vladimir loaned to Bolton until the end of the season and the player, although making mainly substitute appearances has been accreditted to helping Bolton survive their relegation battle, he made a total of 13 appearances for Bolton.

Our concern here is that, although I can understand Man City wanting to loan him out again, the player himself may be another midfielder who can't score goals, I know he hasn't exactly had a chance and Bolton last year were'nt exactly prolific as a whole, but right now, I personally feel we need players that have at least a decent goal scoring record.

Here's a short video of Weiss in action aganst the Czech Republic, looks good on video, but then Kevin Keegan heard that from another Wise...

Be interested to hear opinions from Bolton and Man City fans on Weiss, what do you think of the lad?

Weiss will probably go out on loan again. He is an old fashioned winger. We all hope he can make the next step, but he will have to show he can soon. Wingers who score on a regular basis are highly valued, and would not be going out on loan.

Would agree with that, in our position though, we arent exactly blessed by prolific scorers, which is why I wonder if this lad is the right man for us. Seen him a couple of times and he looks ok, but, not enough goals imo.

As a City fan, I have to tell you guys that Weiss could be an awesome signing. He's young, hungry, very skillfull, beats players for fun, direct, pacy, and reminds me of a young Ryan Giggs. He not only scores goals but sets them up too. If you want a creative winger then Weiss is your man. At City he's regarded as the best young player at the club, and City fans are VERY excited about him. He didn't play much for City last season but whenever he did, he lifted bums off seats, and an air of anticipation swept the ground whenever he touched the ball. City are signing a lot of players so he won't play as many games at City as we all would like him to, so to loan him out to anyone where he will play is a good deal all round. Its a similar situation to the Joe Hart deal last season, and look how he turned out. I'd be very excited by this deal if I was a Magpies fan. Good luck to you next season, and I'll raise a glass of wine when Weiss scores the winner at Old Trafford in the 99th minute! :)

Thanks for that Tim, sounds promising, looks like we'll be waiting until the WC finishes in any case, we could do with some creativity thats for sure...

Yes, Ken, I have to share Tim's view. I'm present at every Reserves home match, and also saw every match in the FA Youth Cup triumph season. Vlad is an engaging player with a good engine, ability to beat players and deliver the kind of crosses that a good centre forward will relish. Given a proper run in a first team would bring this lad on no end, especially if some of his trickery pays off. If he comes to St James enjoy watching him. City has a bit of a different agenda at present where the heat is on for our new players to deliver something in terms of silverware and with Adam Johnson breaking into the team Mancini probably thinks he can't go with 2 young talents on the flanks. Believe me I would be quite excited about Vlad and what Tim says about himbeing similar to a young Giggs is not far off the mark. It is a question as to whether he can apply himself like Ryan and if he can the sky's the limit for this fellow.

I think still on learning curve, great talent, but needs to know when to release the ball better, I think he would do well at Newcastle on loan, can play either wing.

Only seen him play for Bolton last season and he did look promising, as Tim says he can beat players and if he can do that and get a decent ball into the box then that is what we need more forward thinking players imo.

Believe me, Weiss is amazing. Give him time and he will prove himself. We really need to be showing more faith in talented young ones like that. If he was at Barcelona they'd prioritise his dvelopment.

As another City fan, I will happily endorse the views of others here. Weiss is a huge talent, the best in our academy, certainly from an attacking position IMO. I've watched him since he was outstanding in our youth cup winning team and I think a loan move to Newcastle would be perfect for both him and you.
