Gary Speed MBE

Gary Speed MBE

Former Newcastle United midfielder Gary Speed has been awarded an MBE in this years Queens Birthday Honours list...

40 year old Speed has always been the model professional, and is famed for his relentless fitness regime.

Up until last year, the midfielder had the record for most ever Premier League appearances, tallying a cool 535 outings until Calamity James took over (in the light of the ENG v USA game, I think it's wise to drop the Calamity bit)

We'd all like to congratulate Gary on his award and wish him well for the future, it does seem that MBE's etc get thrown about pretty easily these days, but it's nice to see someone like Speedy get it, it's just a shame that Bob Murray got a knighthood at the same time, for services to football and education, if you call bailing SAFC out a service then you're reading the wrong section.

Sir Bob Murray - Re-arrange it a bit and you get SMB!

certainly always seemed the model professional didn't he? Good to see the decidated ones get some attention as opposed to the ones always in the press with their latest wag.

I met Gary a few times when he was up here, top bloke and apart from the wife falling in love with him, he was pretty much one of the best players in his era..
