Simpson Out Until August
The defender had surgery in June to correct a recurring foot injury and although the operation went well, Simpson looks set to miss out on the big kick-off.
Hughton, speaking to NUFC.co.uk had this to say;
'Danny had a minor operation at the end of the season and will miss the start of the season.
'We're hoping that he'll be fit by the end of August, but he'll probably miss the first three or four games.'
The injury to Simpson highlights our weakness, the depth in our squad is very much depleted right now and with little available cash, Chris Hughton will need to be shrewd with his signings.
Newcastle United are reported to be eyeing up loan deals, no names have been mentioned as yet but here's hoping that a full back might be on the list.
