Big Deal For Steven Taylor

Taylor has often been at the centre of speculation when transfer windows appear, the highly rated defender was reported to be on the verge of a move to Everton in January, nothing came of it but throughout the latter part of our Championship campaign, talk at St James' was that of Taylors impending departure.

Often troubled and regarded by some as arrogant, Taylor is a player that we will need in our Premier League return, not least for his passion and of course his fantastic acting.

Bust-ups with Andy Carroll further fuelled the rumours of Taylors departure but the news now is looking far more positive.

Speaking to The Journal, Hughton said;

"As I understand it, work is being done at the moment on a new contract for Steven Taylor and we are hopeful he will sign it.

"It is something that we have been working on for a while, but these things do take some time.

"I`ve had a chat with Steven and he is very much a player we want to keep and from what he has told me, he is also someone who very much wants to stay at Newcastle United.

"As well as looking to sign new players this summer, which I am confident we will do, it is just as important that we keep the players we want to keep - Steven is definitely one of those.'
