'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Watch Out Souness!

Lee Clark is after the hot seat at Newcastle!

He told the official site 'Eventually I want to be a manager, and my ultimate goal is to one day be the manager here. I have always set myself targets as a player, and I am setting them as a would-be manager. This club has been part of my life from the age of nine and I want that to continue.'

Sounds good to me, a Geordie boy running the club. Mind you, Shearer must surely be ahead of him?! Ok, I'm getting carried away, luckily Clarke isn't:

'I'm also living in the real world - I know a lot of players are coming to the end of their careers with similar ideas, so there will be plenty of competition simply to get a good coaching job. But that is why I'm really cracking on with my UEFA coaching badges while still playing.'

The 33 year old midfielder, who is looking to retire at the end of next season, is certainly using his time at Newcastle well, not only does he provide cover, but he is also helping the reserve team boss Tommy Craig.

'I've always said that, wherever I am, next season will be my last as a player. So hopefully I can persuade the club to give me another year as a player. My main objective when I came back was to work with the young players and learn from Tommy while working through the coaching badges. It had been the furthest thing from my mind that I would be able to do even that at Newcastle, so to actually be so involved in the first team here has made for an unbelievable few months.'
