Toon Players Return Early

Glenn Roeder has ordered the Newcastle United players back to training at the end of next month so they will be in good shape for their Intertoto Cup campaign. The order from Roeder is to report back for training on Wednesday, June 28 - three days earlier than the original date set after United found out they were in the Intertoto Cup.

It is also a week earlier than the early-July return which had been pencilled in had United not qualified for the Intertoto competition.

Roeder : 'A lot of hard work has gone into Newcastle qualifying for the Intertoto Cup and we don't want to throw it all away by not being fit when we come to play our first game on July 15 or 16.'

United play one tie against either Icelandic side Keflavic, Dungannon Swifts from Northern Ireland, or Norwegian outfit Lillestrom and - if they win - are through to the second qualifying round of the UEFA Cup.
