Magpies make Huseklepp contact

Newcastle United have made contact with Norwegian side FC Brann to sign highly-rated midfielder Erik Huseklepp, Vital can reveal.

The Magpies hoped to tie-up a deal for the 25-year-old creative midfield ace in the early hours of Monday morning, but were offput by Brann's asking price of 4 million.

It is understood that the player himself is holding out for a summer switch to Premier League leaders Chelsea who attempted to sign him last August.

Newcastle are adamant about their financial stance and are said to be ready to abandon the move with a 'take it or leave it' approach which would see Brann receiving 2 million for the midfielder.

Both clubs are yet to comment on the matter, but word around St James' Park is that a deal would be highly unlikely considering the progress in negotiations relative to the time left until the transfer window slams shut.
