Forest reject United's £1 million bid for Perch

Newcastle United face a stiff test to land highly-rated Nottingham Forest utility-man James Perch after an initial offer was rejected by the Tricky Trees.

Billy Davies has confirmed that a 'derisory' bid for the 24-year-old versatile player was rejected, but implied that a better offer may clinch the deal.

It is understood that an offer in the region of £2 million could seal the deal for a player who can play at right-back, centreback, and also in midfield.

Chris Hughton and Colin Calderwood are both thought to be admirers of Perch, and may up the offer for a player they see as vital to Newcastle United's title ambitions.

Newcastle have also submitted an enquiry about Bristol City right-winger Adam Hammill, but are prepared to be knocked back as City value Hammill highly and may only part with him for a sizeable offer.
