Newcastle want Portsmouth's Williamson on loan

Portsmouth defender Mike Williamson is the latest player to be tickling the fancy of Championship leaders Newcastle United.

Skysports.com understands that Newcastle United are keeping tabs on defender Williamson, as Chris Hughton prepares to initate plan B after failing to secure any of his primary transfer targets.

The 26-year-old centreback has struggled to make an impact on the South Coast since moving to Fratton Park from Watford on transfer deadline day last summer, but may be a good fix for the Toon who are eager to take him on loan for the rest of the season.

Williamson has been on the fringes at Pompey and is said to be ready to try his luck with United.

why would pompey loan him they need the money so bid 2m should be enough a 1m hit in a few months and his wages ... hes made 0 ap.

Pompey would loan him to avoid paying Watford any associated 'appearance related' fees. £950K is due from the Fratton Park moneymen to Watford in just over a week.

we should have pacey and creative midfielder..eg jack wilshere..tom cleverly..pr skjiebred..most urgently...followed by a right back..then a striker

we really need 1-2 creative and pacey midfielders.please so as to break thru more stubborn defence...since our striker peter is now in red hot form...this is very important and urgent..since last season...we should break the partnership of nolan and smith and guthrie...they have skills..but lack of pace and creativity..we should bring in jack whilshere..or tom cleverly..

Cleverley's going nowhere (apart from back to Old Trafford at the end of the season). Sir Alex would want no less than £4m for a player who will replace Giggs at some point soon.

should't we go for boyd?
