Magpies linked with Blackburn striker Roberts

Newcastle United are being linked with a January swoop for 31-year-old Blackburn Rovers striker Jason Roberts, according to Sky Sports.com

Roberts himself has not dismissed speculation about his chances of moving to the North East. He was also critical of the number appearances he has made so far in the season, and reiterated the fact that he wants to play as much as possible.

'I've not played as much as I'd have liked so it's been a hard situation for me. I want to play more. I feel more like I've got a lot more to give.

'I've scored three goals in 10 starts and I scored seven goals in 20 starts last year.

'Goals-wise I feel good it's just a case of we're using different systems for different games and stuff like that.

'It can be frustrating, but all you can do is your best when you're given the opportunity. I prefer to play as much as possible.'

Roberts has been linked with an Ewood Park exit this January window and he insisted that he is powerless to prevent speculation over his future.

'There's always speculation,' he continued. 'Also with the window now open the speculation has increased a little bit. We'll have to wait and see.

'January is a really interesting month. Things do change. We'll have to wait and see what happens in the window.'

It is thought that Roberts is being sought as a replacement of Marlon Harewood, who returned to Aston Villa after his loan deal expired last week.
