Newcastle United's Beckford bid rejected

Leeds United has rejected an offer of £1.25 million from Championship side Newcastle United for star striker Jermaine Beckford.

The Magpies put in their bid just before the transfer window creaked open on January 1, 2010.

League One side Leeds are aware that Beckford, 25, could leave the side for free in the summer, but are adamant on a higher fee if a sale is to go through this window.

Insiders say that a deal is possible if the Magpies increase their bid to £2 million, however, the club are yet to confirm.
