Newcastle keep tabs on Portsmouth defender

Newcastle United are said to be interested in Algerian defender Nadir Belhadj, who is currently facing the axe at crisis club Portsmouth.

Belhadj, along with Younes Kaboul, David James, Kevin-Prince Boateng and David Nugent are to be transfer-listed and off-loaded in the coming month to try and raise enough funds to stave off Pompey's impending bankruptcy.

Due to Portsmouth's diminshing fortunes, Belhadj, who has had a successful tenure at the club may be released on the cheap, and the Championship leaders, who are preparing for life in the Premier League next term, are in the hunt for a new left-back who will provide Jose Enrique with some much needed competition.

No fee has been mentioned, but it is understood that a bid could be forthcoming in the weeks to follow.

If Pompey sell, they need to get some money because we cannot lose too many players and we need the money to satisfy HM.

If you think he's a PL defender then god help you.

What a load of twaddle...

If we pick up Belhadj i just hope Jose Enrique doesnt get too much extra bench time. Jose is such a consistant hard working left back, whos actually unlucky not to score on 3 or 4 occasions this season.
