'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Shearer Recovering From Hernia Op.

Alan Shearer, who underwent a hernia operation in Munich last week, says 'The operation went very well. I'm a little bit sore and black and blue, but that is only to be expected.'

The Toon legend had his operation on Monday and was home and back in the gym 48 hours later. He told the official site:

'I was back jogging on Thursday, and that is incredible really. I will gradually step things up as I go along, but it is getting better all the time. Whether or not I'm fit to play against Chelsea remains to be seen, I will have to wait and see how things progress for me next week. Hopefully I will be ready and won't have to miss the game, but if I do then it is better for me to miss just the one game rather than five or six which may have been the case had I waited until December to get the operation done.'

Adding the international break has worked well for him and that he felt it was necessary to have the operation done now instead of letting the injury get worse.

'I don't want to miss matches, so this was a good opportunity for me to have the surgery done. The surgeon in Germany came highly recommended by various people, it seems the rehab is quicker after her operations so we will wait and see if that is the case, but so far so good.'
