Despite suffering a stress fracture of the foot against Huddersfield, it looks as if Shola will be fit to lead the line against Leicester tomorrow night. The striker today revealed that following the exits of the likes of Owen, Martins and Viduka he has relished the extra responsibility given to him. With five goals in five this season it does seem to be working for the lad.
Shola said: 'I felt in the summer after Mark Viduka, Michael Owen and Oba Martins had gone that I could seize the moment.
I am the guy that is entrusted to lead the line and I'm enjoying that. I always believe if I am given the role in the team I can contribute. It was a massive disappointment going down as a Newcastle fan.
I don't want to see Newcastle in this division but we are here. We deserve to be here. I believe I can contribute to us getting back into the Premier League.
I made that decision to do everything to help us get back up. And so did the rest of the players.'
