Barton and Carroll set to miss Crystal Palace trip

Newcastle United may be without influential duo Joey Barton and Andy Carroll for the weekend clash against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.

The Magpies welcome Nicky Butt back into the ranks after the midfielder recovered from a hand injury. Danny Guthrie is also etching for a start in the much-anticipated clash between The Eagles, and the Magpies.

Interim boss Chris Hughton told The Shields Gazette: 'Joey will be touch and go, but the positive from that one is that it's very minor. It's on his toe.'

'The concerns were when he came off that it would be more than what it is, but it's not.

Certainly, he'll be ready for Wednesday, if not Saturday, but Nicky Butt will be available for Palace.'
