Bassong Spurs move draws near

Both the Chronicle and Sky Sports are reporting that Newcastle and Spurs are closing in on agreeing an £8m compromise deal for Seb Bassong. Having seen rumours of a £6m deal snubbed, it seems a midpoint between that and the £10m we want seems to be bashed out.

Bassong played in tonight's 0-0 draw with t-Leeds, his first turnout of the pre-season.

Is Bassong any good guys ? He's not even on your "first out the door" poll - so does that mean you're resigned to losing him or under no circumstances do you want to see him go ? Is he quick ? Because other than Ledders all our other CBs have no real pace, so it would be good to have another quick guy. He looked like quite a good player to me last season, but it's always hard to judge in a team that was ( no disrespect meant ) struggling.

He's the best we have both in terms of last season and in terms of future potential. Would be a massive loss but we need the money and he's made it clear he won't be playing for us again. French players and NUFC don't mix.

ExiL, if you think about it, how many bargains did we get from West Ham when they went down? Haven't seen too much of Bassong but what I have heard it's all been good. If Harry feels he is needed, I trust his judgment.

Thanks for the response BE - appreciated.
