Jewell: Injuries Cost Us

Jewell: Injuries Cost Us

Wigan boss Paul Jewell revealed that both De Zeeuw and Jackson could miss the rest of the season, and their injuries proved a massive blow at St James' Park.

Jewell: 'We started the game quite well, got a goal in front, maybe could have had another one, but it was just a bridge too far for us to lose two key members of our defence and expect us to win the game.

'It was just too much for us. To have two injuries to centre-backs within a minute of each other, we just couldn't recover from that.

'It looks like Arjan de Zeeuw has broken his collar bone and Jackson has done some damage to his knee.'
