Oba Martins set to replace Adebayor at Arsenal

Newcastle United hitman Obafemi Martins is set to replace Emmanuel Adebayor at Arsenal by signing for the Gunners as early as next month, reports The People.

Martins was one of several players shortlisted by the current regime for transfer, it has emerged, but Toon Managing Director Derek Llambias has now reiterated that no transfer dealings can begin until the club's ownership has been sorted out.

Arsene Wenger is a longtime fan of the 24-year-old Nigerian speedster, and a bid could be launched as soon as United welcome new owners at St James Park.

The former Inter Milan star who arrived at the Toon in 2006 for a fee of £10 million is valued by his current employers at £12 million.

We can't afford his wages. He's a genuine bloke and he loves the toon fans. I wouldnt want the lad to have to play Championship footie next year. He'll do very well at arsenal because they'll know how to use his pace and abilities to good effect. They also have creative midfielders who'll help him to 20 goals next year. Hope he does well wherever he goes next. I'm not that bothered where he goes (with the exception of the mackems) because there's no rivalry while we're in a different division. The way things are going, we're facing a few years in the fizzy pop league.

I think he would do well at Arsenal. As long as he can stay fit
