'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Milner - Souness stick made me stronger

Aston Villa midfielder James Milner has revealed how useless Scottish bucknut, 'Proper' Graeme Souness, has inspired him, following negative remarks whilst he had the lad at Newcastle.

The 23-year-old England Under-21 star played for his beloved Leeds when they imploded, then moved to St James' Park where boss Souness said he would not be 'buying a team of James Milners'. Jimmy said:

'It's not an ideal thing for your manager to say. The mentality from me was to prove him wrong, that is all you can do as a player. It's down to you to prove your ability and show those people who don't rate you that they are wrong.

You remember the lows more than the highs I suppose and it is how you learn from those.'

Once again, Souness's exemplary man-management skills come to the fore. And you wonder why I want to punch the tv every time I see him spouting his expert pearls on Sky's Champions League coverage.

Souness was a brilliant footballer, saw him play for Boro under Jack Charlton in 73/74 and again at the Hawthorns in his debut for Liverpool. As a manager, he seems a total idiot, as a Villa fan I will agree Milner is never going to be world class, but what he does give is total effort and a bit of class to boot
villan from luton
I'd have to agree with villan from luton, Milner may not be world class but is an amazing player and wish he never went, just one of the mistakes make by newcastle united hence why they are sitting with no board/manager and in championship.
