Could Man Utd midfielder succeed Butt at Toon?

Manchester United midfielder Darron Gibson could be Newcastle United's answer to the aging Nicky Butt.

Gibson has been tipped by Toon fans to be a viable transfer target for the Championship club, and with lack of opportunities at United, the 21-year-old Republic of Ireland midfielder may fancy a move.

The Derry-born player has been a fixture in the United Reserves squad since a successful loan spell at Wolves in 2007.

Full of energy, and tactical prowess, Gibson could be exactly what the Toon requires. His stamina and endurance levels are invaluable to any Championship club, and the Magpies are being urged by the club's fans to make a bid next month.

£3 million would clinch a deal, according to sources at United, and Alan Shearer is strongly urged to take note.

Newcastle United have made errors in the past with Guiseppe Rossi, and Glen Johnson, and it is expected that they will not repeat the same mistakes this time around.

I think we should try on load first before we buy him. If he can come on loan why waste money on a player that might be another flop?
