REVEALED: Toon snubbed £17m Johnson move

Newcastle United turned down the opportunity to sign Glen Johnson - Liverpool's newest recruit, valued at £17 million; who could have been snapped up for only £4 million from Chelsea in 2007.

It is has now emerged that while on loan at Portsmouth, who subsequently signed the highly-rated right-back, Newcastle United were offered the chance to sign the player by Chelsea.

After making a £4 million switch to Pompey, the player has become a fixture in the England squad and is rated as one of the brightest prospects in English football.

As United face more and more problems at the back, one may wonder why the club never seem to make right choices in the transfer market.

As Johnson makes his coveted move to Merseyside, the Toon will surely look on and lament another shambolic decision.

He's not that good, so dont worry. He's great going forward but he just cannot defend.

That saying, you did miss a good player. Sorry to rub it in. :-(

I know a few reports are on here about snubbing this player or that player. We don't know what happened, we may have bid and been turned down by the player. Mistakes have been made. We should not dwindle on past mistakes and look forward to the future. Come on the Mags

I have to agree with sfosteruk, stop looking at mistakes in the past and move forward... We've all seen good players come and go, look at Owen he was world class at liverpool ( he was made for liverpool ) since leaving he has not been able to perform anywhere near his potential so what says Johnson could perform for Newcastle?

If he'd signed for the toon he's have been distinctly average just like the resto of them. You need to have 11 players playing with passion and we didn't have anywhere near that. We just had alot of players who couldnt give a monkeys about the club. Most of them want selling or sacking, however we're running out of time in the transfer market.
