As further evidence of the escalated wages we've had to pay to entice players to NUFC recently, it is being widely speculated in the press today that Owen will have to take a monster £70k a week pay cut to get a move to Aston Villa.
This from a side who finished in the Premier League top six! Everton have also been linked with a move, with a maximum of £50k a week. How we've managed to pitch our wage structure so horribly wrong is further evidenced now and the need to keep some sense in future has never been so prominent.
