Relegation Clear Out: Duff changes tack

Following his early pledge to the club following relegation it seems that Damien Duff has finally clicked on that his future might be out of his hands now. Despite stating he wants to stay with the club, the financial position of the club has caused him to realise that £60k a week in the Championship isn't particularly feasible.

Duff said: 'Alan Shearer is the only man for the job. I am sure it will be him. Duff is confident Newcastle can bounce back to the top flight at the first attempt but anticipates wholesale changes to the playing staff at St James' Park.

Newcastle is a club that belongs in the Premier League, so hopefully they will endure only one season in the Championship. There are budgets in the Championship. I am sure the gaffer knows who cares about the club and who wants to stay.

There is going to be a massive clear-out, but I haven't thought about my future that much.'

Wonder if he'll take a pay cut if he loves the club that much?

I think he needs to go. He's played very poorly for most of this season and I don't rate his as a Championship player.

He's never been right since he did his cruciate against Pompey. When you compare him to the likes of Lennon, Modric, Valencia, Nasri, Malouda - different kettle of fish with their pace and skill. He's got neither anymore.

Malouda is ***** though BaldEagle.

Damien is a good player, but i doubt he is going to stay if everyone else goes.
