Relegation Clear Out: Tayls eyed by Cockneys

Despite indications that the lad is keen to stay with Newcastle, it looks like the Premier League clubs are circling over Steven Taylor now. Both West Ham and Spurs have been mentioned in today`s Sunday rags, with £4m as the fee mentioned so far.

Given Ashley`s announcement over the club`s future, it seems very much a cut and run job for the Barrow Boy. With the £40m working capital facility requiring to be serviced and our merry band of mercenaries scrabbling in a stupendous £1.2m a week in wages, it won`t take long to start stretching operating facilities quite seriously.

The predictions of quick sales of assets don`t just lie with Ashley, with the likes of Taylor, Bassong and Martins also set to clear some wedge off the wage bill. A sad state of affairs - surely Pompey`s Arab owner could have seen more potential with NUFC?

Championship football has really put back any sort of potential you may have.

What has interested me most about Newcastle is all the players "pledging their future to the club" - I bet they are considering the ridiculous wages they are on - most of them wouldn't get half that elsewhere. And quoting £15m for Bassong is just stupid - they need cash - bet he goes for less than half that. Newcastle will be a buyers market.

I can't understand the link between us and Taylor... we have four players capable of filling in that position and Taylor really isn't that much of an improvement on what we have.
Othello
what would he offer spurs that we don't already have. We have 4 centre backs which are better than a relegated Taylor. Keep him thanks.

"surely Pompey`s Arab owner could have seen more potential with NUFC?". You'd think so....I'd think so too, but what do I know. The guy probably picked them on the basis they won the FA cup final last year, Arabs eh, what do they know about football?
MKYid
They did buy Citeh after all MKYid - hardly the pick of the Premier League clubs given their money. As for Tayls - don't think he'd be any different to where Dawson is now, best he can hope for. If Upson was to go I could see him filling the gap for the Whammers.

It great to see this great huge massive ect ect ect relagated again. They are so big that they not won a trophy in my lifetime and i'm 33 and they go down every 10 to 15 years. Why do they think they are great????? Is it because they won 6 fa cups before the war??? Have fun down there because that is where you belong you never know if your lucky you'll get a day in London playing a real club big day out for you boys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Leo in Aus Spurs
Anything's better than going down the ***** infested High Road. What a ****ing dump - not a missed away trip, nor the £40odd ticket prices.

I don't mean this as a dig, more an observation, but I think perhaps the reason you were overlooked by the arab investors is the proactive involvement you guys have had in forcing changes to be made to your club. Yes, in many ways it's admirable, and it does show the passion you have. But it's gonna be a massive detraction to any investor.

Fine line between saviours and sinners at our place.

superlukamodric - Ashley sold our potential off at the start of the season. Ok, Tyalor is a good defender and he'll probably pop off to Spurs or W Ham soon, but I really think that we can start buying players with potential now and build up a decent squad ready to challenge for the league...by league i mean championship league :-)

flipper, Ashley was going so far in the wrong direction in every matter this season. Most supporters would do the same thing if their club was being sent down the pan by the muppets that run the club. Ashley got Shearer in with 8 games to go. The fans wanted a decent manager from the moment Keegan left... we didn't get one until it was too late. He [Ashley] hasn't got a clue, and he's admitted that to the Telegraph (admiral thing to do). He's not cut out for running a treadmill, never mind a football club.

Well said Mark lad - good summary of the clown's regime.
