Beckford drama alerts poised Newcastle United

Newcastle United have been alerted by the availability of Leeds United striker Jermaine Beckford after the forward rejected a deal to stay on at Elland Road. The player has been put on the transfer-list, and is expected to move on in the summer.

Beckford, 25, has a year left on his current deal and has been linked with Premier League and Championship clubs.

Beckford scored 34 goals last season for Leeds, who missed out on promotion to League One when they were beaten in the play-offs by Millwall.

The Magpies could secure a deal for the talented marksman for a fee of £5 million, it is being said.

Beckford has scored 54 goals in 98 appearances for Leeds since signing from non-League Wealdstone in March 2006.

If the £5m price tag is right, I hope that Leeds would snap your hand off. Although quite where Newcastle are going to find a spare £5m is an interesting one ......

Why would Newcastle want Beckford.....he scores goals which is against our culture. I predicted all season that our bunch of prima donnas would fall thru the trap this year. Now we will see how good Shearer is.

£5m bit steep but then again Newcastle are used to just throwing money at things and getting nothing in return.

£3m would be decent. Living in Leeds, a lot of their fans really rate him and Delph.

Fancy signing Marlon Harewood if your into throwing money away?? lol

£5m is a bit too steep for a player who has only proven himself in league 1 footie. Apparently he looked out of his depth when it came to playing Millwall in the playoffs. We need to start researching and spend a bit of time weighing up the pros and cons of players before we go jumping in a splashing stupid money around.

With Carroll, Nile Ranger and Ameobi, you've got a core of decent young strikers who can do will in the Premiership. If Nolan were to be offloaded, Allardyce might take him in exchange for Matt Derbyshire, and he's a young striker who has done very well on loan at Olympiakos and would score for fun in the Championship.

Good shout Kerno but I think he's keen to stay at Olympiakos. It'll depend what Ketsbaia wants to do with him. Definitely try for him, maybe Vaz Te if he's still knocking about at Bolton.

All of you guys are raving about Beckford and co but what really suprises me is that none of you have mentinoed either Jason Scotland, who ripped Fulham apart in the second leg of the FA Cup this year, and also Cardiff City's Ross Mccormack or Joe Ledley, with Mccormack in particular who has shone this season. With Cardiff in debt he wouldn't cost too much, he has also made a breaktrhough with the Scotish national side where he capped his debut of with a goal. So how about any of these guys as future signings eh........

I would guess that Big Sam would like nothing more than to take Nolan to Blackburn.

re Beckford: I can't think of any player in the last 5 years that has gone to Newcastle and come out of it with a better reputation...a thorough clean out is essential

I think Pulis might have another shot at signing Ledley this summer. Liked the look of Scotland but again, likely to go to a PL club rather than us.
