'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Lawrenson expects Newcastle United to go down

Newcastle United are set to know their fate in the massive clash against Aston Villa this Sunday. Alan Shearer's side are in the relegation zone, and will rely on Manchester United to beat fellow strugglers Hull City, and their own players to spark a win at Villa Park.

Big Al is confident his side will avoid the drop, though.

'I am totally convinced we will get out of it, yes, and more importantly, so are my players,' said Shearer.

'We know what's at stake. I'm confident we can go there and give our great fans something to shout about, I really am.'

However, the pundit community does not seem to share the 38-year-old's optimism.

BBC pundit Mike Lawrenson has gone on record stating that the Magpies will be relegated and that he does not see any way out of that end.

'I know Newcastle are reliant on other results anyway but I just don't see them getting anything at Villa and staying up,' Lawrenson said.

'Being relegated would not be the end of the world because it would give them a chance to reorganise things at the club, and let's face it that needs to happen.'

The Toon face one of the biggest challenges in their entire Premier League tenure, this weekend, since Kevin Keegan raised the roofs in his first tenure.
