Post Fulham: Shearer demands Bassong stay
Despite his sending off against Fulham, the Sunday rags are speculating that Alan Shearer has placed a necessary caveat to the Board about keeping Seb Bassong should we stop up. With the Gooners sniffing about, Shearer praised the player, saying:
'Sébastien's attracting Arsène Wenger's attention; that's good. There's no surprise he's been linked with one or two top clubs. He's played really well and he's a good lad as well, a very good lad.
We need to keep and get the best players here at Newcastle. Sébastien Bassong is undoubtedly one of them. My advice would be to get him on a long contract. He's a big player. He's young and he has a huge future in the game.'
