The latest from the rags today is that Alan Shearer looks set to replace Joe Kinnear permanently as Newcastle manager, with a four year deal in the pipeline for our goalscoring legend. The deal is set to have its own complications with Shearer wanting certain guarantees that Ashley won`t firesale and asset strip the club.

That particular situation remains the stumbling block, with Ashley liable to set off a whole raft of super discounts and cuts at the club, akin to his retail outlet Sports Direct.
