As a Setanta regular we`ve had to watch as Sir Les has suffered through our current predicament. The hero of our 95/96 season and a star the season after with current boss Alan Shearer has recently been speaking with the Ronnie Gill and it hasn`t been pretty. Summing up the real waste of current forward resources our former number 9 and 10 said:
"The implications for the team that loses on Monday night are simple - they will be relegated. For a while now I`ve feared that it could well boil down to this game, and those fears have materialised. If Newcastle want to stay up they have to win this game to have any chance, it`s as simple as that.
If they can win the pressure will be off to an extent. And the more pressure is on the other teams around them. That could be a major factor. But so could the goal difference.
You could never have imagined this situation. Having one striker off form is one thing. But to have all three could only happen to Newcastle just when they need somebody to put the ball in the back of the net.
Nerves are part of the problem, but something has to give somewhere. If you aren`t creating chances it`s a major problem. Eventually one will go in for somebody - I just hope it is Monday night. While Newcastle are still in with a shout you have to keep believing. If they are going down they must go down fighting."
