With the options in the centre of the park curtailed yet further following the imbecile Barton`s Anfield antics, Alan Shearer has laid down the challenge to the last men standing to finally take a game by the scruff of the neck against Boro on Monday. Shearer said:
"There`s Danny Guthrie, Kevin Nolan and Nicky Butt. We`ll be hoping that Alan Smith`s OK, but he`s going to be touch and go. But, like the rest of the players, they won`t need motivating for this game. They`ll be able to go out there and feel the atmosphere. It`s all up to us to try to go out there and get that win.
The mood in the camp has been fine, despite what happened at Anfield. We`re looking forward to the game. I wish it was on Saturday rather than Monday, because it`s nearer, that`s how much we want this game to come round.'
