It feels dirty having to define the Boro game as a derby. Normally the media and the Boro fans are the only ones bigging this up, the former for good copy and the latter as they haven't any proper rivals like us and the mackems to vent their frustrations on. Nevertheless, with a crucial three points at hand, whatever gets our players up for this is necessary. Pre-match, Shearer said:
"It is irrelevant that it`s a derby because the stakes are so high. The players know that, they are aware of the stakes and how important it is. There is a tremendous amount of pressure on both teams.
We`re thinking at the moment a win could be enough to get us out the bottom three, but we know that could change. I believe we can do it, and I have seen enough from the players.
The pleasing thing is results keep going for us. There have been times when we haven`t changed things, but we`ll be in there fighting. If we create chances like the Portsmouth game we are in with a chance."
